  • How to Style Princess Sessions with Kasey Duvall

    July 07, 2021 2 min read

Princess sessions are all the rave right now. The littles and parents get so excited for these! You can make it such an amazing experience for your clients. I mean, who doesn’t want to dress up as a princess and have it documented? They are pretty fun for me too, the joy that travels through that lens is quite amazing. Styling these sessions beautifully is going to be key in getting bookings and word of mouth referrals. I will be going over a few key pointers to excel your princess sessions.

    The Backdrop
The backdrop is the first thing you need to choose when planning princess sessions. It is the focal point of the princess scene. Choosing the backdrop first will also help you style the rest of the session. I get all of my backdrops from Intuition Backgrounds by Becky Gregory. She handpaints a lot of her designs and you can order them to be printed on a variety of materials. I really like the fabric material. Their canvas is exceptional as well. My favorite backdrop for princess sessions is called “Sven”. It has more of a “winter princess” theme. The hues of blues and creams give me all the heart eyes. This is a one-of-a-kind design that you can’t buy anywhere else. There are tons of other backdrops to choose from if this one isn’t what you’re looking for.

    The Dress
Oh my, the dress is everything! This is what makes these little girls feel like princesses. I chose this light blue dress because it matches the backdrop perfectly and goes along with the “winter princess” theme. I rented this dress from Bentley+Lace. At Bentley+Lace you can find dresses and accessories full of whimsy, femininity, and charm. They also make custom dresses for purchase. Each dress is custom made in Texas. These dresses are top notch and the absolute best out there. Big and beautiful! This specific dress I rented is called "April". It’s a high low dress and ties up nicely to fit a variety of sizes. I had to clip this dress a little tighter for these images because it was just a smidge too big. I added in a little wand and crown and voilà, the perfect princess session.

    The Fun
These special sessions are all about fun. Gentle direction is all that is needed to achieve optimal results here! As long as the littles feel like princesses, it’s going to be a fun time. I direct them to twirl, giggle and show me that sweet little wand. We talk about how beautiful and magical they look. The smiles usually start pouring out!

If you style and market appropriately you will sell these out in no time!
